CRAIG MULLANEY
Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor
Craig Mullaney joined Coherent in early 2024 as Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor to the Chair and CEO. Previously, Mr. Mullaney held executive roles at Ustream (acquired by IBM) and at Facebook (now Meta) in roles encompassing strategic partnerships, communications, and operations. Most recently, he a was a partner at Brunswick Group, advising Fortune 500 CEOs in a variety of areas including corporate reputation, public affairs, mergers & acquisitions, CEO transition, and crisis.
A distinguished graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Mr. Mullaney served as an Airborne Ranger-qualified infantry officer in the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division. His book about his experience leading troops in Afghanistan, The Unforgiving Minute: A Soldier’s Education, was a New York Times bestseller, a Washington Post “Best Book of the Year,” and one of the Military Times’s “Best Military Books of the Decade.” After leaving the Army, he joined the national security team on then-Senator Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and served as a senior official at the Pentagon and USAID.
Mr. Mullaney holds two master’s degrees from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He is a trustee of the United States-Japan Foundation, a founding advisory board member of With Honor, an adjunct fellow of the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy, and a Scott M. Johnson fellow of the United States-Japan Leadership Program.
